ESIA
White Nile Ltd controls a 60% interest in Block Ba located in the Jonglei state in northwest Southern Sudan, between the towns of Juba and Padak. The Block is believed to be highly prospective in terms of oil potential. The remaining 40% interest in Block Ba remains in the ownership of Nile Petroleum Corporation, the state owned oil Company of Southern Sudan. Therefore as a result of their combined interest in White Nile Ltd and Nile Petroleum Corporation, the People of Southern Sudan retain a circa 70% interest in Block Ba.
An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (‘EISA’) study is being commissioned to determine whether it would be environmentally, socially, technically and economically feasible to develop the oil deposits in the concession area and to construct drill pads, access roads, accommodation camps and eventually an oil processing plant. The current estimated life of the proposed project is 150 years. The oil will initially be for local consumption and later for export to international markets.
